Arrest after emergency 999 call from Nationwide Building Society in Wisbech




Following a call-out to Nationwide Building Society in Wisbech Market Place yesterday (Tuesday) morning, a man has been arrested on suspicion of multiple offences.

Police received the 999 call at about 10.30am from staff at the bank reporting a man being very aggressive to staff and customers, resulting in them locking the doors to the bank once he had left.

A police spokesperson said: “Our response officers attended and the man was arrested for making threats to kill, assault causing grievous bodily harm (GBH), non-fatal strangulation, three assaults on emergency workers, indecent exposure, and escaping lawful custody.

“He remains in custody at this time.

“This incident caused a bit of a stir in the centre yesterday so we wanted to provide an update and also thank members of the public who were very helpful.”
