Arson attack destroys Wisbech café furniture

Owners of a newly opened café are counting the costs after arsonists attacked over the weekend and destroyed outdoor furniture.

The incident at the Wisbech café in the Park happened overnight with fake rattan furniture including a table and chairs being set alight and destroyed.

Terry Jordan, clerk to Wisbech Town Council, who is landlord of the pavilion which is located in the town park, said CCTV cameras in the area, including one on the building itself were being looked at to see if the culprits can be identified.

He said the owners of the café, who took over running the business just last weekend when there was a grand opening with the town’s mayor cutting a ribbon, had been advised about possible anti-social behaviour, however, they had unfortunately chosen to leave the furniture out overnight.

Mr Jordan said: “The furniture involved belongs to the café’s operators, the town council does provide outdoor furniture that includes metal table and chairs. However, they have not been affected.

“We know there has been some problems with youth anti-social behaviour in the town recently and the likelihood is this attack is linked to that.

“There are CCTV cameras in the vicinity and they are being checked.”

A police spokesperson said they had received a number of media enquiries about the incident, but there was no record of the incident being reported to

The owners of the café have been contacted for a comment.
