Author to visit the home that inspired a book

A Leverington author has published a collection of stories drawn from her childhood memories growing up in the small Fenland village in a house her father built.

Madeleine Pizzuti set her memoir, Tell Me A Story..., between the mid-1950’s to 1970’s and describes everything from her grandmother’s infamous jelly cubes, to donkey rides, to teenage crushes and a drummer boy that would make you smile.

She said: “I can still smell the country air that surrounded us as we sat amongst the gooseberry bushes that day.

“The aroma of cucumber sandwiches, tea from a flask, bales of prickly straw, mingled with the smell of strawberries ripening in the distance created, for me, a childhood memory that would last forever. This book is not merely a memoir, but also a means of saying ‘thank you’ to those who were part of my childhood.”

Readers will have the opportunity to meet the author at Leverington Mini-Mart on July 9, Leverington Primary School on July 12 and Wisbech Library on July 28. The book is now available at St Leonard’s Church for £9.99.
