October 1 is International Older Persons Day and a ballet and dance group from Parson Drove will be taking part in the first-ever Silver Swans Celebration Day.

The event will take place at the Royal Academy headquarters in London, and will also be enjoyed online by groups from around the world, with the Parson Drove Silver Swans group having put together a special video for the occasion

The day will be truly international, with representations from the US to Australia and countries between, not to mention regions of the UK.

Barbara Wraith, Silver Swans licensee and ballet instructor for the Parson Drove group, said: “This will be a really great event. Ballet and dance offers a fantastic opportunity to stay fit and healthy in body and mind. Silver Swans in particular encourages older learners and returners to experience the joys of classical ballet. It’s completely inspiring and addictive.”

Silver Swans ballet is modified for the older age range. Barbara added: “We love the challenge of being as technically correct as we can. Ballet definitely improves memory and helps with balance, posture and co-ordination.

“Fingers crossed, our short video will be shown to groups around the globe. If not, just putting it together has been a great motivator and very enjoyable.”
