March Armed Forces and Veterans Club celebrate its fifth anniversary
A breakfast club that helps those in the armed forces and veterans is celebrating its fifth anniversary.
March Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast Club helps support past and serving members of the HM Forces and their families.
The group was set up by Jeff Walters, who served in the forces for 25 years.
On the first Saturday of every month, the group meets at Cassanos Bar and Restaurant in March at 9.30am for breakfast.
More than 100 members turned out on Saturday for the fifth-anniversary breakfast where they enjoyed cake and a port toast.
Cassanos owner Kevin McCourt also signed the Armed Forces Covenant - showing their pledge to keep supporting the club.
Jeff said: “We had 55 people come to our first breakfast, we had 100 for our anniversary and the most we’ve ever had is 106.”
“Because of the club, we also started a weekly drop-in in the same venue, where we signpost any help needed for veterans and their families.
“We have helped a lot of people with PTSD.”
Jeff thanked Cassanos for their continued support in hosting their monthly breakfasts.
“It gives us a good thing to get back to, We are a tribe and have a lot of good banter,” he added.
