The energy recovery centre (incinerator) in Avonmouth on the outskirts of bristol is 125 miles from London and receives regular train loads of waste from there for incineration.
Wisbech is only 100 miles from London, so with a reopened railway it could easily become a dumping ground for London’s rubbish.
A spokesperson from the West of England waste partnership, which is also made up of the councils of Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Bath and Northeast Somerset, said the carbon benefit has not yet been calculated.
