Firefighters called to blaze in Wisbech Market Place
Fire crews from Wisbech, West Walton and Outwell were called to a fire on Wisbech Market Place at 7.34pm on Monday.
Firefighters arrived to find a well-developed fire involving the roof of a mid-terraced four-storey building. They extinguished the fire using hose reels and returned to their stations by 9.15pm.
The cause of the fire was accidental.
Earlier that morning, a Wisbech crew attended a fire at a property on Stow Road, Wisbech.
Firefighters arrived to find a fire involving a chimney in a house, with flames visible from outside the property. They extinguished the fire and returned to their station by 12.40pm.
The cause of the fire was accidental and it prompted a warning from a fire service spokesman about the importance of having chimneys swept before lighting a fire in the home for the first time this autumn.
He said: "The debris buildup in the flue can be set alight when heating the home, which could cause a significant fire. Regular chimney maintenance will help prevent this from happening.”
