Calling all knitters – Wisbech care home launches festive community warmer campaign
A Fenland care home is hoping to spread some love and Christmas cheer when the festive season arrives later this year.
Lyncroft Care Home in Clarkson Avenue, Wisbech, has launched a new appeal to help with their aim with the help of the town’s mayor Councillor Sidney Imafidon.
The home, which became a record holder earlier this summer when it yarn-bombed the town’s Castle, is once again calling on knitters and crocheters to get involved with them.
The aim is to collect as many hand-knitted and crocheted hats and scarves as possible between now and Sunday, December 1, when the annual Christmas Lights Switch-on is held in the Market Place.
Residents from Lyncroft will be joining the town council, which organisers the event, and will be encouraging visitors to take a hat or scarve on the day to spread Christmas cheer to the community at large.
A purpose-built wooden tree with hooks is to be built from where the knitted items will be handed out between 3pm and 6pm in the Horsefair on the lights switch on evening.
Scarves and hats of all sizes, suitable for all ages, young and old alike as well as for all genders are needed and they can be as festive, fun or as classy as the creators would like.
Cllr Imafidon said: “Lyncroft Care Home has launched another awesome campaign titled ‘Keeping Wisbech warm this Christmas’.”
There will be two drop-off points the home itself in Clarkson Avenue, and Linda’s Wool N Yarn Shop on Lynn Road, Walton Highway.
Anyone wanting more information can contact the Lyncroft wellbeing team on 01945 475229.
The record-breaking yarn bomb was created at Wisbech Castle during the Rose Fair weekend and saw 13,645 woollen items cover the historic building – many of them had come from all over the world.
