Wisbech Camera Club calls it a day after 75 years




One of the area’s longest-running club’s has called it a day.

Wisbech and District Club made the decision to fold at its recent annual meeting.

The club was formed in January 1950 at Peckover House before it moved to the Conservative Club.

It has had three more homes since then including the football ground and Wisbech St Mary Sports and Community Centre.

Long-serving club secretary David Hodgson said: “It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that the Wisbech & District Camera Club has come to an end after 75 years.”

The closure came shortly after the club re-started its annual calendar which included the annual Pat Goode Memorial Competition.

Judged by David Steele from Cambridge Club the Wisbech members pitted their photographic talents against those of 10 other clubs from around the area.

Once again the competition was won by the Photographic Imaging Cooperative (PICO) based in Peterborough.

Second place went to the Deepings Camera Club, with North Norfolk Photographic Society third and Ely Photographic Society fourth.

Hosts Wisbech found themselves in joint sixth place with Peterborough City Camera Club.

Andy Gutteridge from PICO won the best projected digital image with his creation ‘Ready to Grasp’. Victoria Andrews won the best print with ‘Brothers’ making it a clean sweep for PICO.
