Campaigners smoke out new supporters in fight against Wisbech incinerator
Anti-incinerator campaigners were out in force to help raise awareness of the fight to stop a mega-burner being built in Wisbech.
WisWIN (Wisbech Without Incineration) campaigners held a meet and greet in the town centre on Saturday to help grab people's attention on plans by German firm MVV Environmental Ltd to built a 54 mega-watt incinerator on land off Algores Way.
They were joined by The Blue Dot environmental activism group from Cambridge who gave their support and brought along their Choking Chimney.
Ginny Bucknor, one of the leading WisWIN members, said: "Lots of people are still unaware of the issues. Last week, one of our campaign team, Alan Wheeldon, spoke at the Wisbech Business and Professional Men’s club.
"This was a great opportunity to explain in more detail the impact it will have on the community. Like many people who have busy lives, several guests said they had not appreciated just how damaging it would be, not just to businesses, but to the community and the health of our children.
"Several businesses ordered large banners to put outside their businesses."
