Hickathrift House Care Home in Marshland St James makes resident’s dream of trying authentic Chinese cuisine come true

A care home resident’s wish to try authentic Chinese cuisine came true.

Kim from Hickathrift House Care Home in Marshland St James had her wish come true when she got to go to the Oriental Palace in West Winch for a “delicious meal”.

Through the care home’s Post A Wish initiative, the staff set out to make her dream of having a delicious Chinese meal out, a reality.

Hickathrift Houses’ ‘Post a Wish’ initiative is where residents can write their goals, passions and meaningful things they would like to do and the team works on helping them complete these ‘wishes’ throughout the year.

This is the second wish granted by the Post a Wish initiative this year. Other wishes include going to the pantomime and meeting a pony.

The visit to The Oriental Palace sparked incredible memories for Kim about her life and she shared her passion with the staff at the restaurant and other friends from Hickathift House.

The whole group felt honoured to listen to her tales and be part of this wonderful occasion.

In response to this wonderful surprise, Kim said: “What a lovely time we have all had. I love the decorations and the food was just wonderful. I had my favourite prawn chow mein.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who joined me and made this possible. Thank you so much, it’s been amazing.”

Paula Melerski, general manager at the home, said: “We believe that every moment is worth cherishing. We want everyone we care for to know how important they are to us here at Hickathrift House.

“This meaningful trip is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the team here in making our residents’ dreams come true.

“It was wonderful to see how happy Kim was and the staff loved being a part of this as well.”
