Marshland home residents enjoy some jubilee nostalgia

Excitement ran high at Hickathrift House in Marshland St James where residents and staff baked up a storm of red, white and blue cakes with the support of head chef Nigel Coleman ready for the Jubilee.

Staff and residents at the home had put their heads together and came up with a plan for their celebrations fit for a Queen.

Over the bank holiday weekend, the home held a Jubilee-themed quiz, live singalong with Polly, classic English barbecue and a fabulous party with live entertainment from KJ & The Catt.

The whole home came together to celebrate our longest-reigning monarch and reminisce about what she means to each and every one of them.

Paula Colman, general manager, said: “We’ve all had such a brilliant time celebrating the Platinum Jubilee, it has been such fun. Our staff and residents love The Queen and so they were all so excited to take part.

"It has been a real collaborative process - thinking about how we wanted to celebrate, planning our activities, decorating the home and creating all the party food. It was so lovely to be able to invite our friends and family to come and join us for a proper celebration, too.”

Betty, one of the residents said: “The Queen is an amazing lady, everyone wanted to get involved in the celebrations.

"It is remarkable to think she has been on the throne for 70 years, such an achievement! I can remember the Coronation. I was very small but I remember dressing up at school and being given a book, which I still have. I enjoyed reminiscing about life back then and this was just as much fun.

"We all wanted to pay our respects and say thank you for all that The Queen has done for this country.”
