Fenland chippie would only accept cash
I recently fancied some fish and chips. So, I went to a well-known fish and chip shop in Fenland.
I don’t carry cash on me, so I asked if I could pay by debit card. Unfortunately, the counter assistant replied: ‘Sorry we only accept cash.’
Cash is the mainstay of the black economy. Most escorts only accept cash.
Cash is also used by petty drug dealers and organised crime.
For small businesses, only accepting cash payments is a mistake. Research carried out by the Federation of Small Businesses shows that people spend more when using card payments.
There is also the time involved in cashing up at the end of the day and in taking cash to the bank.
Small businesses that have large amounts of cash on their premises are wide open to robbery.
This puts staff under constant stress.
Fenland Council should set an example to small businesses by no longer accepting cash or cheques at their one-stop shops and at Fenland’s sports centres.
It’s time all Fenland businesses went cashless. Cash is no longer king.
