Long Sutton Parish Council agrees to install CCTV to curb crime at parks and allotments, Queen's Jubilee plans progress and Rollin’ Rock Cafe Bus adds town to stops
Councillors have agreed to put up CCTV cameras in parks and allotments as part of a bid to combat crime.
Long Sutton Parish Council will erect the cameras around the town after growing tired of a continued series of unsavoury incidents.
These have included locked gates being damaged and a trailer being stolen.
Councillors also hope the cameras will deter people who bring bags of dog mess from home and fill up public bins.
Chairman John Clarey said: “We’ve had quite a few problems in the allotments and so forth, so that’s the reason.
“It’s been an issue for several months.”
Coun Clarey will meet with allotment owners to discuss the best way forward before a date is set for installing the CCTV equipment.
The plan is to have several portable cameras which can be moved around to different areas in the town.
“We’ll probably buy four and put them here and there in the park if and when we see a problem,” Coun Clarey added.
“In all honesty, we think we know the culprit. It’s pin-pointing it, if you like.
“We’ve been doing a little bit of groundwork.”
- Hayden Feetham attended his first parish council meeting last Thursday (March 24) after being co-opted during the previous session. Coun Clarey said: “We are all looking forward to his contributions, it is great to have younger members of the parish council.”
- Councillors also discussed their latest plans to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June. On Thursday, June 2, the town will join the National Beacon Lighting. Church bells will then ring in time with the rest of the nation on Sunday, June 5. On the same day, a community celebration will kick off at 12pm in Winfrey Park. Events planned so far include a dog show, craft stalls, music and live singers, live sessions from Spalding Brass, a display of vintage vehicles, Air Cadet and Fire Brigade visits, fair rides and swingboats, a car boot sale, balloons and face paintings, competitions and traditional old fashioned games.
- The Rollin’ Rock Cafe Bus will be adding Long Sutton to its stops. The sessions will involve music and arts-based activities, and are run by creative specialists. There will be time to talk to people in a ‘non-judgemental environment with live experiences of mental health and well-being struggles’. The bus will be located in the car park next to the council offices on London Road. Sessions will kick off on Tuesday, April 5. They will be held on April 26, May 10, May 24, June 14, June 28, July 12, August 2, September 13, September 27, October 11 and October 25.
