Chatteris Beaver Dominic Case earns top scouting award despite lockdown setback
Camp outs at home, zoom cookery sessions and challenges all helped a Chatteris Beaver achieve the coveted Bronze Scout Award.
Dominic Case, seven, has followed in big brother Nathan's footsteps to achieve one of the highest honours in scouting.
He had to gain six challenge badges to attain the Bronze Award, the highest accolade a Beaver can achieve and he has just recently stepped up into Cubs with the 2nd Chatteris Scouts, where once again he hopes to follow in Nathan's footsteps and earn the Silver Scout Award.
Nathan is now in the Scouts and working towards his Gold Award. There is only one higher accolade and that's the Queen's Scouting Award which normally is earned by those in the Explorer Scouts.
The boys' proud mum Leyna, who together with husband Iain volunteers with 2nd Chatteris Scouts, said: "Dominic had literally just started to work towards the Bronze Award when the first lockdown happened.
"It made things harder for him, but he was determined and the Scouts were brilliant, moving lots of activities online. We had camp outs both in the house and in the garden. Dominic earned badges over zoom sessions and we also completed set challenges. He worked very hard and managed to earn all 42 badges a Beaver can have.
"His brother also achieved all his Beaver and Cub badges, so it is great that Dominic is following in his footsteps. We are very proud of them both and what they have achieved.
"Dominic is now determined to get his Silver Award over the next couple of years and of course earn all his Cub badges too."
