Chatteris cabaret night proved to be a big hit
A family got together to welcome everyone to a cabaret and prize raffle at Chatteris which raised £1,005 in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.
Katie Mankellow, one of the organisers, explained that the event was held because her nan, Julia Dennis, who lives in Kent, has recently been diagnosed with the disease.
Katie said: “The night was something really personal for our family as our nan has recently been diagnosed with this debilitating disease and it’s had an impact on all of us.
“We hope that the money we raised can go some way to helping to raise more awareness and understanding about Alzheimer’s and dementia.”
During the evening at Chatteris Conservative Club there was a Cher tribute act, by Laura Dennis, and a comedy act by Perry Dennis, who was the main organiser.
This was followed by a raffle with prizes donated from local businesses in Chatteris and Ely and an auction of two Teddy bears, where some people were bidding up to £50 for one of them.
Perry said: “It was really good and exceeded our expectations.
“The support was bigger than we thought and everybody was extremely generous in helping us get to £1,000.
“We were hoping to raise a small amount of money, however the evening surpassed all expectations.”
