A Fenland plasterer will have it covered – when he travels from Chatteris to Copenhagen for a half marathon in memory of his parents.

Matthew Rockall will be lining up for the Danish Half Marathon in aid of Cancer Research UK next month.

The managing director of Rockall Plastering hadn’t run more than half-a-mile in over two decades, but started running to fundraise for the charity less than a year ago after losing both his parents, just a few months apart, to lung cancer and breast cancer.

The 13.1 mile event takes place in Copenhagen on September 13 and will be Matthew’s fifth half marathon.

The 42-year-old, who lives in High Street, Chatteris, said: “The death of my parents really shook me and I wanted to try to make a difference.

“I entered the Royal Parks Marathon in London in September last year around Hyde Park, Westminster Bridge and up to Buckingham Palace – and haven’t looked back. It felt great to run and even better to raise lots of vital money for research into cancer.

“Almost all of us have been touched by cancer in some way and I got lots of really amazing support from customers, family and friends.”

Matthew, who trains with Chatteris Running Club, will be cheered on in Copenhagen by a group of friends, customers and family members who are travelling to the capital with him.
