Children at Ochards C of E Academy in Wisbech get complete surprise with book corners in classrooms

Primary school children were given a surprise as new book corners were created thanks to £6,000 of funding.

Orchards C of E Academy in Wisbech was given the opportunity to choose a variety of books for the corners in each classroom thanks to funding provided by the Foyles Foundation.

The launch was a planned surprise for the children, who got a shock when they arrived at school in the morning to find a strange structure covered with a sheet in the corner of the room.

Head teacher Sarah Cullen said: “The children cheered and squealed as they discovered the range of brand-new books in their classroom.”

The school was also paid a special visit by author Richard O’Neill, who introduced the book corners and children shortly returned to their classrooms for the grand unveiling.

Ms Cullen added: “Richard then went round to visit each classroom and did a story session and allowed each class to choose one of his books to add to their book corners.

“The day was just a buzz of excitement and genuine delight about books.”
