A care home brought entertainment to its residents and their families with two fun events while raising money for causes.

Askham Village Community in Doddington has announced the success of two recent fundraising events – a bake sale and a bingo night – which together raised £500 to support local initiatives and enrich the lives of their residents.

The events brought together team members, relatives, and the wider community in a shared effort to give back.

Funds raised will go towards two causes close to Askham’s heart – the Askham Residents’ Social Fund, which supports meaningful activities and events within the home, and Little Miracles Chatteris, a local charity supporting families of children with additional needs, disabilities, and life-limiting conditions.

The bake sale offered a delightful spread of sweet treats, all prepared and donated by team members and families.

Held on-site at Askham, it sparked plenty of conversation and connection.

Kelly Hayes, events coordinator, said: “The generosity shown has been overwhelming. It’s moments like this that remind us how strong our local community is and how much good we can do when we come together.”

This spirit of community continued with the bingo night, held at The Sportsman in Chatteris. A lively evening of games, laughter, and brilliant prizes drew in supporters from across the area.

Ella Cuthbert, fellow events coordinator, added: “We were genuinely touched by the turnout. It was not just about the money raised – it was the warmth in the room, the sense of togetherness, and the shared purpose of doing something good.”

Askham thanked The Sportsman for hosting the bingo night and all the prize donors who helped make the evening extra special.

The fun does not stop there – Askham’s annual summer fayre is taking place on Saturday, August 2, from 11am to 4pm.

It promises to be a day of fun, food, and festivities for all ages. Plus, trivia night is coming on Friday, September 5 – so get ready for an evening of friendly competition.
