Fenland District Council awaits judgement on injunction bid over asylum seekers in Wisbech hotel

A High Court hearing to decide whether the Home Office can use a Wisbech hotel to house asylum seekers has been postponed.

Fenland District Council filed an application for an interim injunction last week after learning that the Rose and Crown Hotel in Wisbech Market Place was being used by Serco, on behalf of the Home Office, to accommodate people seeking asylum.

The case was due to be heard at the High Court today (Tuesday), but has now at the suggestion of the judge been re-listed to permit a longer hearing. The building permanently closed as a hotel earlier this month.

The council is awaiting a new date for the hearing, which is expected to be early next week.
