A post by the surgeons on Facebook on Monday said: “We have just received reports from a member of the public to say that there has been a lot of pink rat poison sprinkled around the 'doggy park'.

“The good citizen who noticed this picked up four bags’ worth of poison himself and reported it.”

Fenland District Council was also alerted of the findings in the park, and its cleansing team cleared it on the same day.

A spokesperson for the council said: “From the pictures provided with the report, it may have been a pellet type bird food which can look very similar, although we are unable to be certain as it has now been disposed of.”
