Council steps into help Chatteris' elderly and vulnerable

More news, no ads

Chatteris Town Council has been proactive and found two ways it can help out in the current crisis.

After consulting with Age UK, the council decided to send out an information letter giving telephone numbers of those who can help with shopping, deliveries of food, takeaways, deliveries of prescriptions, etc. The letter was posted out to over 630 people in Chatteris aged 76 and over.

The letter was well received with those unable to access the internet particularly grateful for the information.

If any other elderly or vulnerable residents would like to receive a copy of the letter please contact the Clerk on 01354 695166.

The council also agreed to fund the sterling work being undertaken by Chatteris Community Car Scheme in collecting and delivering prescriptions and helping with shopping for elderly and vulnerable residents.

The council gave a grant to cover the cost of collecting and delivering 200 prescriptions and the organiser has been advised he can put in a further request if the pandemic continues and the funding pot runs dry. The Council has also supplied the group with bottles of hand sanitiser.
