Chatteris councillor Ken Perrin joins planning committee to ‘represent the people’
A newly elected councillor for Chatteris has announced he is joining the planning committee with an aim of “reminding councillors who they actually represent”.
Ken Perrin, a far-right councillor who has been elected to represent the Slade Lode South Ward of Chatteris, says he is joining the committee to make sure plans reflect on “what the town wants”.
British Democrat Ken said: ”I started last year by opposing a 70-dwelling development off West Street Chatteris- a development on our open spaces that is neither wanted nor needed”.
Ken has said he plans “not only to find out what framework the Council is following but also to remind the councillors who they actually represent”.
He added: “It is the people of Chatteris we represent. Our job is to deliver sustainable - and warranted - housing growth for our town, not for what Downing Street wants. We seem to have a scattergun approach to housing and one that does not follow democracy.”
He has claimed that overdevelopment is a problem in the area and wants to try and prevent this from happening in Chatteris.
Cllr Perrin referred to a previous development where 575 residents objected to building a 93-dwelling development on Wenney Road Meadow in Chatteris.
Ken added: “Democracy is the will of the people. It is the electorate’s vote that counts - not the councillors, we are just their representatives at Council - not their dictators.
“I vowed when campaigning to stop overdevelopment on our open spaces and now, having been elected, I aim to keep my promise.”
