Councillor takes on the role of mayor for Chatteris

Chatteris has a new mayor following the annual town council meeting.

Outgoing mayor Linda Ashley proudly handed over the chain of office to her replacement Councillor Anne Hay, who will hold the post for the next 12 months.

Cllr Hay’s consort will be her husband Andrew, who will accompany her as she carries out civic duties both in Chatteris and at events across the county.

The new deputy mayor is Councillor Ian Benney, who will stand in for Cllr Hay when she is unable to attend an event.

In the meantime the council is looking to co-opt a new councillor for the Wenneye Ward following the local elections when there was no one nominated for the position.

Anyone wishing to be co-opted on to represent the ward should apply in writing to the Proper Officer at the town council’s offices in Church Lane or by email.

Those looking to join the council need to give their reasons for wanting to do so. The deadline is Thursday June 1, and the councill will make a decision at its meeting on Tuesday June 6.
