Long Sutton Cricket Club receives thousands in donations following break-in
A cricket club has praised community spirit after thousands of pounds were raised following a break-in.
Higflying Long Sutton CC discovered their groundskeeping equipment – including mowers and a strimmer – were taken on Friday morning.
But supporters, local groups, rival teams and even a renowned cricketing journalist have put their hands in their pockets to help support the club with £4,000 raised within three days.
“It’s really good to see the community spirit from the area,” said Long Sutton CC vice-chairman and groundsman James Baker.
“It makes it all worthwhile when you get support like that. I want to thank everyone who has helped us.”
Around £3,000 has been raised via a GoFundMe page, which saw The Cricketer journalist George Dobell among those donating.
Further funds have come via pledges, with Holbeach and Fenland Gymnastics Club backing the club and neighbours Moulton Harrox CC donating this season’s player fines.
