Decade on and gruesome murder of Wisbech pensioner remains unsolved

A decade has now past since the horrific killing of Wisbech pensioner Una Crown and still the perpetrator of the terrible crime remains free.

Una was stabbed numerous times and her body set on fire in the hallway of her bungalow home in Magazine Lane - it was a crime that rocked not only Wisbech but Fenland as a whole.

The anniversary of the discovery of her body is on Friday (13) but the last sighting of her alive was 10 years ago today (Wednesday) when she did her weekly shop at Tesco supermarket.

Una, who was 86 and quite frail was known to have spoken to a friend over the phone at about 5pm on Saturday, January 12, before family members made the gruesome find the next morning - Sunday January 13 2013.

At first police believed the murdered widow had accidentally set herself alight and the deep gashes on her torso were caused by a tight scarf. It was not until two days later her death was declared murder and an investigation was launched.

A £10,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of her killer remains unclaimed despite numerous appeals over the years for help in trying to find the murderer. The case was even featured on the BBC’s Crimewatch programme in the hope it would inspire new leads – but without luck.

The knife used in the brutal attack, which police believe was taken from her home by the killer, has never been found despite extensive searches.

Police have long believed the key to solving the horrific case lies with the public, and that someone in the community holds the vital information needed to crack the case.

A police spokesperson said they would be issuing an update on the investigation on Friday.
