Sutton Bridge man escapes jail despite driving into funeral director's window while disqualified

A man has dodged jail despite driving while disqualified for a second time.

Stevie Jackson (27), of The Quay, West Bank, in Sutton Bridge, crashed his Vauxhall Vectra car into a funeral director's window on Bridge Road and gave a positive breath test to police on December 1.

He also provided a blood sample to police which was still being analysed.

Prosecuting, Marie Stace said Jackson had been banned from driving for driving under the influence of drugs in November 2020 and was not covered by any insurance for the car he was driving - which belonged to his wife.

At Boston Magistrates Court today (Wednesday), District Judge Peter Veits said it was Jackson's second offence for driving while disqualified and told him he had shown a 'total disregard for a court order' - and that he had considered sending him straight to prison.

However, he said he had decided to impose a suspended prison sentence of six weeks custody suspended for a year and to ban him from driving for a further two years.

Jackson was also ordered to pay a total of £213 in court costs and charges.

Mitigating, Philippa Chatterton said Jackson and his wife had split up as a result of his taking her car and crashing it.
