Do your bit for the environment by signing up for Fenland’s garden waste service

Do your bit for the environment by joining the thousands of other households in Fenland recycling their garden waste.

Recycling weeds, hedge and grass trimmings, leaves and fruit and vegetable waste through Fenland District Council’s garden waste service helps to conserve natural resources as the waste is turned into a soil conditioner which residents can collect and use for free.

Direct Debit subscriptions for the 2023/24 Garden Waste Service, running from April 1 2023 to March 31 2024, are now on sale for £39 – saving 17% off the standard price.

Debit card and cash payment subscriptions will be available from January 2023 for £47.

Councillor Peter Murphy, the council’s portfolio holder for the environment, said: “More than 22,500 households across the district are now enjoying our fortnightly, kerbside brown bin collections throughout the year.

“We had to increase the subscription prices slightly this year to ensure the service covers its own costs and doesn’t impact those who choose not to subscribe, but it still remains one of the lowest priced local authority garden waste services in the East.

“We have also increased the Direct Debit discount next year from 15% to 17%, offering fantastic value collections at just 75 pence per week.”

Existing Direct Debit customers will have their subscriptions automatically renewed in February 2023, from when all new and existing customers will have their 2023/24 subscription sticker for their brown bin delivered.

 The soil conditioner produced from recycled garden waste is available to collect for free from Thalia’s Waste Transfer Station in Melbourne Avenue, March, PE15 0EN, between 8am and 4pm Monday to Friday – just take a spade and bag and help yourself. If you cannot make it to the site to load your own soil conditioner, it can also be purchased for £2.50 a bag at the Household Recycling Centres.
