Doddington resident Wilfred Thompson is set to turn 100 on May 29




Fen man born and bred Wilfred Leonard Thompson is set to celebrate his 100th birthday on Friday.
The father, grandfather and great grandfather, who currently lives in Doddington, was born at Seagate in Murrow on May 29 1920.
He attended Gorefield School until he was 14, when he left to work as an agricultural worker for Mr Ward and son.

He and his late wife of 57 years, Wyn, moved to Doddington in 1950 when he went to work for March railway, a job he continued until 1961, before moving to Whittlesey Brickyards, where he worked until his retirement.
Wilfred and Wyn had a son, Michael and daughter Brenda Palomar, three grandchildren and six grandchildren.
He has been a life member of the Isle of Ely Football League from 1971 and enjoyed both football and cricket as well as gardening. He was groundsman for both Doddington Football Club and Wimblington Cricket Team.
The family were due to celebrate the milestone with a party for Wilfred but unfortunately the current Covid-19 pandemic has forced that to be cancelled.
