Wisbech man in court after being caught drink driving once leaving pub
The police were called after a suspected drink driver was spotted leaving a Wisbech pub and getting into his car.
Those suspicions were right as Elija Ndikoyele, 18, was pulled over by officers, arrested and taken into custody to carry out a blood test, which showed he had 87mcg of alcohol per 100ml of blood. The legal limit to drive is 80mcg.
Ndikoyele, of Braeburn Avenue in Wisbech, appeared in King’s Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday where he admitted to driving above the specified alcohol limit.
Prosecutor Paul Brown said that the incident took place on January 20, when the police were called by a member of the public, reporting that somebody had left the pub, got into an Audi and was swerving in the road.
Officers discovered that it was Ndikoyele driving the vehicle and pulled him over and arrested him.
However, in mitigation, George Sorrell argued that there was no evidence that Ndikoyele was seen swerving in the road.
He said: “There was no evidence of bad driving.
“He consumed just a little too much alcohol but has learned his lesson.”
Mr Sorrell explained that Ndikoyele is at risk of losing his job as a result of committing this offence.
Ndikoyele was disqualified from driving for 12 months and fined £256 along with a victim surcharge of £102 and court costs of £105.
