Driver and home owners have miracle escape after car crashes into Parson Drove house

A young woman had a miraculous escape after her Mini car careered off a Fenland road and into the corner of a house demolishing a wall and leaving its occupants badly shaken.

The incident happened at around 7.30am this morning as the Bates family of Harold's Bank, Parson Drove, were getting ready to start their day.

Angela Bates said: "Me and my husband, Michael, were in the kitchen, while the kids were upstairs. We saw something go past the kitchen window and we could hear gravel hitting the windows and doors. We saw something dark go past and we thought it was still on the road and then we heard a loud band. We thought it had hit the trees at the top.

"Michael ran out the back door, which was the most direct route, I opened the hallway door to check on the kids, and saw a black Mini wedged in there. A young woman was driving, and miraculously she managed to get out and was unharmed. She was very shaken and very apologetic. I'm just grateful she was able to get out to say 'sorry'. She was very lucky. An ambulance did come out to her, but she went home with her step-dad.

"Unfortunately it has left a big hole in the wall, which means we've got at least six months of absolute turmoil to get it sorted.

"We have contacted the insurance company, but were told we won't get a structural engineer out today. We have had to wait all day for someone to come and secure our property, it is an absolute nightmare.

"But it could have been so much worse, fortunately the kids, Alex, 18 and Cameron 16, were both unharmed and the driver also got away without being seriously hurt."

Angela continued: "What we think happened was she was trying to overtake a white van, but the camber of the road and the pot holes meant she clipped it and that sent her off the road through my drive, through a hedge and into my house. She somehow managed to miss trees and and cars as she came through, but she lifted paving slabs."

A police spokesman said: "At 07.23 hours today (Wednesday ) officers attended a two vehicle RTC which resulted in one vehicle hitting a house.
