Inconsiderate drivers have come under fire for poor parking after an emergency vehicle struggled to negotiate a Chatteris street.

Cars and vans double-parked on Burnsfield Street on Saturday evening hampered a fire engine as it attended a call out.

The fire engine had only inches to spare as it navigated its way down the road with one resident taking to social media.

She said: "Well that’s brilliant to the inconsiderate people at the top of Burnsfield Street. The fire engine can’t get down and no one can get out. Well done to the one’s parked at the top on double yellows!"

Chatteris Community Fire Service added their voice and said: "Please be considerate when parking and consider how the emergency services would get to your address in an emergency. Yesterday evening we were held up significantly trying to negotiate parked vehicles.

"We appreciate how difficult it is to park sometimes, but we can all play a part by considering the following steps: Never park on double yellows, never double park, park as close to the kerb as possible and to straighten front wheels and consider wing mirrors."
