Elm woman admits kicking a police officer

An Elm woman has landed a £567 bill from court after kicking a police officer while being arrested.

Levi McManamon (24) assaulted PC Coleman after he attended the foyer of Bar and Beyond in King’s Lynn to deal with a problem involving a male who was with her.

Prosecutor Robyn Khan told the bench at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday that it was just after 11pm on January 12 and McManamon and the man were both drunk.

Miss Khan said the defendant swore at the officer as she told him that her friend had done nothing wrong.

The issue escalated and McManamon grabbed the officer’s wrist and kicked him to the left knee before she was restrained and handcuffed.

McManamon, who the court heard was an assistant manager in the licensing trade, had no convictions before pleading guilty to assault by beating of an emergency worker and being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

In mitigation, solicitor George Sorrell said: “She had gone out for the evening with her boyfriend. She perceived at the time he was being treated badly. She thought that she was helping by intervening but she realises now that her behaviour was reprehensible.”

McManamon, of Kirkhams Lane, Elm, was fined £300 and ordered to pay £150 compensation to the officer, £85 costs and £32 victim surcharge. There was no separate penalty for the drunk and disorderly offence.
