Blue light boost for Wisbech school's mini-bus appeal
Representatives from the three emergency services: fire, police and ambulance handed over a cheque for £3,126 to Wisbech's Meadowgate Academy towards the school’s mini-bus appeal.
The cash was the proceeds of the Blue Light Race which saw the three services compete in a virtual race with runners from across Fenland joining to add their miles to those completed by emergency personnel.
The race itself saw Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service blaze to glory putting Cambridgeshire Police into second place with the East of England Ambulance Service third.
The Blue Light Race was run between August 10 and August 24 and saw supporters of the fire service notch up a total of 877.4 miles, the police supporters totalled 631.5 miles and the ambulance team 218.25 miles.
To qualify to have mileage added to a team runners had to donate to the event’s Just Giving page at least once. On Wednesday (2) Inspector Ian Lombardo, Shaun Reddy from East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust and Nicola Barlow from Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service presented the ‘final’ amount raised Meadowgate’s headteacher Michelle Flanz.
