LEARN MOREA celebration of the life of Wisbech Town Football Club stalwart Anthony Gower is being held next month.
Friends and family of the popular Golden Goal, raffle ticket and programme seller will gather at 2pm on Sunday, October 17 at the club’s Lynn Road stadium clubhouse to pay tribute to him.
The idea is to share memories and stories about Anthony, to laugh and remember a lovely man who is greatly missed.
Anthony, who died last year, aged 77, after contracting coronavirus, first became involved with the club in 2006, with wife Mary.
The couple were the first people that players and spectators alike would encounter once through the turnstiles, with Anthony’s cry of ‘Programmes!’ and ‘Golden Goal!’ counterpointing Mary’s ‘Raffle Tickets!’ in between.
Mary, who will be at the special event, still works tirelessly on match days selling programmes, raffle and Golden Goal tickets.
There will be a collection at the event for the Air Ambulance.
