Sutton Bridge Players perform The Wonderful Wizard of Oz at Westmere Primary Community School and present head teacher with donation
A theatre group has presented a cheque as thanks to the school which hosted its pantomime.
Performers from The Sutton Bridge Players took to the yellow brick road with three sold out shows of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz – which was just their second pantomime.
Following the performances at Westmere Community Primary School, which the group uses as a base, members presented head teacher Karyn Wiles with a cheque for £500.
Ren Shilcock, chair of Sutton Bridge Players, who also played the role of Scarecrow, said: “Within our brilliant group we've got an eclectic mix of talents, which all contribute to making this performance a true community effort.
“For some of our group, this was their first time on stage, and they did absolutely brilliantly.
“For some of our tech crew this was their first production whilst others have returned for their second and third years with us.”
The pantomime was written by Nigel Holmes and directed by Fiona Milnes who also played the part of the cowardly lion.
With witty humour in the script, comical duo Ugg and Lee was played by Holly and Hayley Murphy, with Cass Wheatley as the Wicked Witch. Lottie Ryan playing the angelic and loveable Dorothy.
The donation was made with contributions from the raffle.
Ren added: “Every single person involved has done us proud.
“I want to thank everyone for their dedication, hard work and everything in between.
“Every member of the group has helped bring our vision and interpretation to life, and we couldn't have done it without you.
“Thank you also to our audiences who came to see us - we can’t wait for our next shows and the chance to perform for you again.”
Sutton Bridge Players meet every Wednesday and Sunday at Westmere Primary School from 7.30pm.
