Expansion plans for camping site in March with shepherd huts and glamping pods
A camping and bed and breakfast site in Fenland is set for expansion following the submission of a planning application.
Owners Hannah Ross and Debs Spencer, who have owned Four Winds in Whittlesey Road, March for over three years, are looking to build on their existing tourism business with the application that seeks planning permission for a new toilet block, alterations to the existing access and the siting of three glamping pods, four shepherd huts and 24 touring caravan/tent pitches.
A design and access statement drawn up the applicant’s agents Morton and Hall explains the proposals will probably lead to additional employment.
The owners hope to expand on the consistency high occupancy rates of approximately 90% at peak season.
There are already shepherd huts and touring pitches on the site, as well as a log cabin together with a traditional bed and breakfast offering in the main house.
The design statement points out the application meets current planning policy which seeks to protect and where possible enhance tourism businesses.
The proposed new accommodation will be able to be used all year round, expanding the business further.
Kayaking, canoeing and pedalo hire are also available on the site which borders the River Nene making the town centre easily accessible by water.
The new shepherd huts and glamping pods will be set to the north east corner of the site and each will have its own parking, as is already the case with the existing pitches and accommodation.
The design statement concludes: “The growth would not only meet demand but would support the local economy and provide more visitors with an exceptional outdoor experience.”
