Fairytale idea to help Fenland villagers forget 'Grimm' days
Fenland villagers are being asked to put these 'Grimm' days to one side and join in a fun event aimed at lifting spirits.
Paul Albutt, chairman of the trustees at Wisbech St Mary Sports and Community Centre, and his wife Jane are hoping their idea will have a fairytale ending among residents of the village.
He said: "We normally Wisbech St Mary puts in at least one float into the Wisbech Rose Fair parade, but obviously this year the event has been cancelled. In fact everything seems to have been cancelled, which is a real shame.
"So we have come up with the idea of holding our own cut-down version and are encouraging people to create posters, figures, tableaux anything they like really, based on the theme for this year's Rose Fair - fairytales.
"It is not a competition, but we hope as many people will join in and bring a bit of fun to the village. People can base their creations on any fairytale they like using whatever materials they like.
"All we ask is they get in touch with us so we can arrange to go around and take a photo of each one so we can put it on our Facebook page for everyone to see and enjoy. We are holding the event on the Saturday that would have seen the Rose Fair parade - July 4, so people have a few weeks to get creating.
"I know Jane has plans for some old plywood we have lying around - I think she is hoping to create Rapunzel in her tower - which is ambitious. We don't expect everyone to be that ambitious, but to just have fun and put a smile back on everyone's faces."
