Wimblginton family faces hefty vet bill after pet left covered in carpet glue

The owners of a cat are facing a hefty vet bill after their beloved pet was left covered in carpet glue.

Jane and Danny Gaskin, of March Road, Wimblington, are at a loss for words to describe the person who committed such cruelty on their cat Betty.

The incident happened sometime on Thursday night.

Jane explained: “Betty went out at about 9pm on Thursday night and she was back at about 6am the next day for her breakfast. When she came in I noticed her back looked wet and I was a bit mystified as it hadn’t been raining.”

However, on further investigation Jane realised the ‘wetness’ was something sticky.

She said: “It was clear it was some sort of glue. We decided we didn’t want to tackle getting it off ourselves so we took her to the vet who tried various solvents they use to remove dressings from wounds.

“Nothing was shifting it so the vet said the only solution is for her to have her fur shaved off. We have arranged to take her back today for that to be done, she is going to have to be sedated while the vet does it.

“The vet thinks it was sprayed on her and suggests it is likely carpet glue that has been used. It is a specialist glue so you wonder where someone would have got hold of that and have it handy to spray over a cat.”

The incident has been reported to both the police and the RSPCA who will be looking into the matter.

“It has made us worry about our other cat Sparky. Betty is not a friendly cat and wouldn’t to anyone when called, but Sparky is such a friendly boy,” said Jane.

The couple has appealed for anyone with doorbell CCTV in the vicinity of Knowles Transport area of March Road where they live to have a look for any sign of Betty’s attacker.
