McDonald's set for March

Fast food fans could be celebrating early in the New Year with news that burger-chain favourite McDonald’s is planning a new restaurant and drive-thru for March.

Plans have been submitted this week for the latest addition to the global-chain with hopes of constructing a purpose-built restaurant on the corner of Hostmoor Avenue and Wisbech Road - just metres from rival KFC.

Amherst Ltd have submitted the application to Fenland District Council and want to build the restaurant/take-away with a drive-thru, seating area, car park and electric vehicle charging points on the site, which is a former Anglian Water balancing pond.

A planning statement drawn-up by Contour Planning says the proposed restaurant is expected to employ more than 65 full and part time staff, primarily from the local area and points to McDonald’s commitment to staff training as well as its environmental initiatives.

It also say: “In considering the design principles for this development, McDonald’s design team have taken into account the site specific design background of the local environs; the proposed use of the building as a restaurant; the amount of development proposed in relation to the surroundings; how the layout proposed fits within the urban grain; how the scale of the proposal sits within the site and relates to the urban form in the surroundings; and the overall appearance of the scheme including the soft landscaping proposed.

“McDonald’s Restaurants have long been considered one of the major influences in the quick service industry, constantly re-inventing themselves to the ever-changing public and social values/needs. The proposed interior of the restaurant will provide a distinct modern feel with the exterior of the building reflecting this change in retailing.”
