Fenland boxer's foundation serves up half-term thrills

Youngsters of all ages enjoyed a host of free activities thanks to Fenland boxer Jordan Gill and his Next Generation Foundation.

The Featherweight fighter known as 'the Thrill' put on two days of off fun at Wenny Rec in Chatteris to help keep young people active over the half-term and to help inspire them.

Covid rules meant numbers had to be limited, but the sessions still proved a huge hit offering a chance for those taking part to try their hand at a range of activities including boxercise, walking football and learning about nutrition.

Leading the event was the Chatteris-born boxer's dad Paul Gill, who helps to run the foundation which was officially launched last summer with a day of activities.

The launch followed a pilot scheme run through the boxer's former school - Cromwell Community College - just before the first lockdown hit.

Explaining the thought behind the scheme Jordan said at the time: "There is not a lot for young people to in the area so the idea is to help channel young people's energy into doing something positive and move them away from anti-social behaviour."

The aim is to expand the scheme across Fenland over the next four to five years but Jordan and Paul are determined to deliver a quality experience, which is why they will be taking their time to make sure they get it right.
