LEARN MOREResidents at a Fenland care home have spent a day reminiscing about Sunday school and talking about religion.
GOOD NEWS for Everyone, formally known as Gideon’s UK, visited Hickathrift House in Marshland St James for a pleasant morning chat about the Bible.
Gill and John from GOOD NEWS for Everyone, began by reading Psalm 23 (The Lord is my shepherd), which the residents knew well to start the session.
The residents got into the spirit by discussing their faith, Sunday school and why it was important to them.
Towards the end of the session, GOOD NEWS for Everyone donated HOPE magazines to every resident, Bibles for residents and staff and several large prints. Residents and staff enjoyed looking through the donated HOPE magazines together.
Elsie, a Hickathrift resident, said: “We can’t thank Gill and John enough for coming in and donating these lovely books and magazines. As well as Liz for organising the whole event. Thank you. They are so wonderful."
General manager, Paula Colman, said: “We have all had such a spiritual time reminiscing about our childhoods and reading psalms together. It has been a fascinating bible reading by Gill and John. We all loved looking through the HOPE magazines and seeing the beautiful, photographs and bible readings. It has been a wonderful morning.”
Our varied life enrichment programme keeps residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities. We support residents with their religious interests through virtual church services, local church services, Holy Communion inside and outside of Hickathrift House care home, group and individual readings of the Bible and poetry.
