Fenland care home’s summer fair brings the local community together

Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together at Hickathrift House Care Home to enjoy a wonderful Summer Fete held in the home’s grounds.

The care home at Marshland St James hosted a variety of activities throughout the day, including a book sale, games, a tombola, barbecue, local businesses and craft stalls as well as a local entertainment company KJ Entertainments, who did face painting, balloon modelling and singing, which were enjoyed by everyone who came to the event, including the Mayor of Wisbech, Peter Human.

Staff and residents at Hickathrift House made everyone feel welcome and were delighted to see different generations having fun together. Visitors enjoyed plenty of refreshments; a delicious barbecue, and mouth-watering salads all washed down with plenty of tea and coffee prepared by the head chef and general manager, who were hard at work making sure that a great time was had by all – it really was a team effort.

Betty and Barrie, two residents were hosting the Hickathrift stalls and together with staff raised an incredible £365 for the Residents’ Fund. This fund helps to create incredible experiences for residents and goes towards the life enrichment program at the home including outings and activities.

Elsie, a Hickathrift House resident, said, “It was a lovely day. My daughter and son-in-law came to enjoy the day with me, and seeing so many children enjoy themselves was marvellous. It was all down to the hard-working team at Hickathrift, and I thank them all so much.”

Joining in with the fun, was the general manager of Hickathrift House, Paula Colman, who commented, “What a tremendous day and turnout. We are thankful for those who visited us on the day. It was lovely to see so many happy faces in and around the garden – it was really a day to remember for us and the residents. It was a resounding success.”
