A specialist care provider gave residents a royal celebration to remember to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend.

Askham Village Community, a specialist family-run care and rehabilitation community, in Doddington and staff ensured that every resident had the opportunity to share in the joy of the national holiday and provided a British themed party, which instilled a real sense of community and patriotism.

Residents, staff, family, and visitors all enjoyed an afternoon tea and buffet, which included a selection of Jubilee sandwiches, scones and cupcakes made by the team at Askham’s in-house café.

Wearing Union Jack hats and glasses, Royal masks and even face paint, residents carried on the celebrations into the following day – where another joyous tea party took place.

Aliyyah-Begum Nasser, operations director, said: “We have always strived to be an inclusive community here at Askham and what better occasion to bring people together than the Queen’s 70th year on the throne? We had a joy-filled day with all our amazing staff and residents, demonstrating that those in social care or undergoing specialist rehab are no exception to this national celebration. Seeing the smiles on our residents’ faces was a moment we will all cherish and a memory fitting of such a monumental occasion.”

Alliyah added: “Our team put in a great deal of effort to make sure the communal spaces were adorned with British themed decorations and there were plenty of scones and tea to go round! It’s safe to say these efforts paid off and we can't wait for the next Royal celebration at Askham Village Community.”
