Fenland cat is finally reunited with owners three weeks after he escaped in pub car park
A Long Sutton family has issued a massive thank-you to a Fenland community which helped reunite them with their missing cat, Jimmy.
After three weeks on the run Jimmy, a black and white moggie belonging to Tanja Sharp and her family, is back where he belongs.
Jimmy's adventures started on Friday October 23 when he made a dash for freedom from Tanja's car as they travelled from London back to Long Sutton.
Tanja, who was with her son Finley, 12, at the time, said: "Jimmy had an accident in his cat box so I pulled into the car park at the Golden Lion pub in Stonea, and some how in the split second the car door was open when I went to sort him out, he escaped."
Tanja and Finley spent over two hours calling Jimmy in a bid catch him but when he eventually started to make his way back to the car the pub's own cat appeared and scared him off, sending Jimmy running into the darkness."
By this point it was also turning cold so Tanja made the difficult decision to leave Jimmy. She returned the following day, and every day after that calling Jimmy, putting up posters and raising awareness of the missing moggie on local social media.
There were a couple of sightings including one from the man in the nearby railway crossing box and that led to the family to the vicinity he was in.
Then with the help of a cottage owner, who started to put food out for Jimmy, and then allowed a trap to be set up in an outbuilding, they finally managed to catch him.
Tanja said:"It was a bit of a cat and mouse game as he got into the trap a few times, ate the food but didn't set it off. He even got caught once but managed wriggle free. So it was great when we finally managed to trap him. Now he is safely home, and he is definitely grounded. We would like to say thank-you to the local community, especially to the cottage owner who fed Jimmy and let us set up the trap in their garden."
