Fenland cinema receives a £126K lifeline from the Government
A Fenland cinema described as 'a jewel' by local MP Steve Barclay has been given a £126,458 Government lifeline.
The Luxe in Alexandra Road, Wisbech, was one of more than 200 independent cinemas across England being helped by grants from the Culture Recovery Fund.
Posting the news on his Facebook page the North East Cambridgeshire MP said The Luxe cash comes on top of the £128,000 of cultural funding given by the Government to the historic Angles Theatre in Wisbech.
He said: "As we continue to face the many challenges from the covid pandemic, including the difficult Christmas restrictions due to the new strain of the virus, I will continue to work to ensure Fenland and East Cambridgeshire receives funding so we can bounce back more quickly once the vaccines have been rolled out. The Luxe is a jewel in the Fenland landscape and I am pleased that this has been recognised."
The Light cinema in, Wisbech was given £7,164 whilst the Majestic in King’s Lynn received £104,826.
