Fenland mum's bid to bring Christmas joy to children in local hospital
A Fenland mum of three has launched a toy appeal to bring a bit of Christmas joy to children in hospital over the festive period.
Zoe Flack, who has three boys: Kai, nine, Jax, who will be two in December, and Taye, who will be one next month, is looking for donations of toys for children aged nought to 14 years.
She is making the appeal in aid of Holly Ward at Hinchingbrooke Hospital, Huntingdon, as a thank-you for the amazing care they have given Taye, who has been in and out of the hospital since his birth there last year.
Taye has DiGeorge Syndrome, which has left him with a hole in his heart, a suppressed immune system, epilepsy and developmental delay and he is under a raft of doctors and consultants at the Huntingdon hospital.
Zoe, who is originally from Manea, but now lives in March, said: "The hospital have been absolutely amazing, I wouldn't trust any other hospital to care for Taye like they do at Hinchingbrooke, I can't fault the doctors, they have been brilliant."
She explained her and Taye were on Holly Ward last Christmas and saw how special the staff try to make it for children that are stuck there over the festive season.
"They make sure every child has a present and they have a visit from Father Christmas and last year the fire service came in and the children that were able went out and had a look around the fire engine, they were amazing and the children loved it," said Zoe.
She continued: "This year I want to give something back as we have spent so much time there since Taye was born, which is why I have launched the toy appeal. All Hinchingbrooke ask is that the toys are new and sealed because of the current covid situation.
"My priority is Holly Ward, but we will share whatever we have left over with the other wards, including the children's cancer ward. Nothing will be wasted.
"I plan to make a live video when I deliver the toys, which I plan to do on December 1. I have had two places offer to act as drop off points: Heritage 4x4 in Manea and FACT in Martin Avenue, March and I'm really grateful to them. But if anyone has any toys then they can message me via Facebook. I really want to help make it special for the children in hospital this Christmas."
