Fenland school confirms two more cases of covid-19
Just days after a pupil tested positive for covid-19 a Fenland secondary school has confirmed two staff members now have the virus.
In an email letter to parents yesterday (Sunday) the Thomas Clarkson Academy explained the two staff members had not been in contact with pupils, however a small number of staff who have been in close contact with the individuals who have tested positive
have been asked to self-isolate for 14 days.
On Tuesday the school became the second in the town to have a confirmed case of the virus.
Parents were informed in an email on Tuesday (13) that a pupil had tested positive for the virus prompting a series of comments on Facebook pages.
The pupil concerned was in Year 11 and as a precaution 32 students were told to self-isolate until October 20.
Richard Scott, the school’s principal, said the pupils involved will continue with their learning from home while they self-isolate for 14 days with support from teachers online.
He added: “Due to our stringent ‘bubbles’ all other students can continue to attend school and should follow national guidelines.
“All students will be able to return to the school, providing they have no symptoms, on Wednesday October 21.”
In his latest email he again offered reassurances and said: "Due to the measures we have in place, we have not identified any students who have been in close contact with the individuals.
"The school remains open and your child should continue to attend as normal if they remain well."
On Wednesday (14) officials at Marshland High School in West Walton said they too had a Year 11 student test positive.
The school said the pupil concerned had already been self-isolating for the past 10 days after a relative showed symptoms of the infection and tested positive themselves.
Deputy headteacher Tom Duce said: “Public Health England has advised us that no further action is required at this time because the student had already been isolating, and that no student or member of staff needs to isolate.
“We understand parents might be worried but we want to assure them the measures we have taken to date are in line with government advice and guidelines, and we will continue to monitor the situation. Marshland remains open for all year groups and all our other students should continue to attend as normal.”
We have been made aware of two members of our staff who have tested positive for COVID 19 over the
weekend.
We know that you may find this concerning, but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are
working closely with Public Health England. This letter is to inform you of the current situation and
provide advice on how to support your child. Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus
(COVID-19) will be a mild illness.
The small number of staff who have been in close contact with the individuals who have tested positive
for coronavirus (COVID-19) have been asked to self-isolate for 14 days. Due to the measures we have in
place, we have not identified any students who have been in close contact with the individuals.
