Fenland school excludes five students after incident
A Fenland school says it has a 'zero tolerance' approach to racism after it suspended five students this week.
The pupils at the Neale-Wade Academy in March were excluded for an undisclosed 'fixed term' period following an incident involving at least one other student in the school's grounds on Monday (12).
It is believed to have been linked to England's defeat in the European Cup Final by Italy on Sunday night, but it is understood whilst the incident may have been racially motivated the police have not been called in, however the local education authority has been informed.
In a statement Graham Horn, Neale-Wade's principal, said: "At Neale-Wade Academy we have a zero tolerance approach to any form of racist abuse or prejudice-based bullying.
"Following an incident that took place at the school this Monday (12), we took swift action to give a fixed term exclusion to five students and reported the incident to the local authority, in line with the school’s policies.
“The school’s aim is to create an environment of education and awareness so that any form of abuse or prejudice-based bullying is not tolerated under any circumstance.
“We understand this incident has been distressing for the victims and their families and are working with them to ensure that they are fully supported.”
