Fenland second most complained about council in county




The number of complaints about Fenland District Council may have halved since 2017 - but it is still the second most complained about authority in the county.

An investigation into which councils best serve their residents by claims.co.uk looked at data from 2016 2022 from the Local Government Ombudsman - the full results can be found here: https://www.claims.co.uk/most-complained-about-english-councils.

As a result Cambridgeshire's most complained about councils, alongside the most improved have been revealed.

It transpires that Peterborough City council with 15.2 complaints per 10,000 residents is the council with the worst record - although figures also show that with an almost 55 per cent uphold rate complaints are being listened to.

Fenland came in second place racking up 9.3 complaints per 10,000 residents.

However, figures also show that while that may be the case our local council has also seen an almost 50 per cent (48.84) drop in the number of complaints since 2017 - putting Fenland ninth among the most improved councils in the country.

Nearly half of the complaints upheld by the Ombudsman against Fenland involve housing, planning and development.

Councillor Chris Boden, Fenland's leader, said: "Despite the number of complaints not one has been found against Fenland Council by local ombudsman since 2018, and that's a claim few other councils can make."

Cambridgeshire County Council is the county's local authority receiving the fewest complaints with just 5.7 per10,000 residents. By far the largest proportion (64.29 per cent) of these complaints involve education and children's services.

These services accumulated 245 complaints from 2016 to 2022 - 8.2 per cent more than planning and development at 225 complaints, and 33.5 per cent more than adult social care (163 complaints).
